Hey everyone, I’m Kevin. Summaries can be outsourced to AI, but understanding? That stays with you.

A lot of people think that now that we have AI, we don’t need to read long articles or books anymore. But honestly, I feel the exact opposite. The more we’re bombarded with summaries, short-video breakdowns, and endless feeds, the more we actually need deep reading.

Why? Because it’s not just about absorbing information—it’s about training these deeper skills:

1.Staying focused long enough to get through dense stuff is a rare skill nowadays.

2.Grasping how things are structured. Great books aren’t just one take; they’re built on frameworks. Skip straight to a summary and you’ll catch the conclusion, but miss the reasoning.

3.Spotting the main thread. When there’s too much noise, knowing what actually matters versus what’s just background detail is everything.

4.Making ideas your own. AI can pull out the key points, but it can’t digest them for you. They still have to click in your head.

5.Forming your own judgment. You can let AI summarize, but don’t outsource your conclusions.

So lately, I’ve really started to believe this: deep reading in the AI era isn’t about knowing more stuff. It’s about keeping your mind from getting chopped into fragments. AI can definitely help you read faster, but it can’t replace actually soaking it all in.
